Lavender’s benefits are varied. It's aromatic properties are known to relieve tension headaches, assist in restful sleep, and reduce anxiety. Lavender is used to treat skin disorders such as acne, psoriasis, and eczema. The anti-fungal, anti-bacterial properties contribute to healing wounds, burns, including sunburns. The essential oil makes a great addition to skin moisturizer as it assists in hydration.
Lavender essential oil is used to treat respiratory ailments, alleviating coughs and flu symptoms by applying directly to the skin or a vaporizer. Massage therapy with lavender oil provides relief from joint and muscle pain by improving blood circulation and it also used to lower blood pressure.
Adding dried lavender to closets or craft materials will prevent moth damage in wool products. Misting with lavender discourages gnats and mosquitoes from biting and makes a natural insect repellant.
Lavender is an herb, a species of the mint family, and therefore edible. Used alone or as one of the ingredients in “herbes de Provence”, it lends a floral, slightly sweet and elegant flavor to desserts and main dishes. Many chefs are preparing wonderful recipes with culinary lavender flavoring lavender sugar for desserts, or adding to marinades and dry rubs for the main course.
It is one of the few fragrances that are the least allergenic yet versatile enough to be used in beauty products, aromatherapy and foods.
